Roorkee Institute of Technology (RIT) and Himalayan College (HC) operate in unison under Himalayan Charitable Trust. Forestry is the science and art of managing tree plantations, forests and related resources. In Himalayan College, we offer B.Sc. Forestry and B.Sc. Forestry program is a 4 years regular degree program (a Semester Module including organizational training and attachment with State Forest Department).

Himalayan College is affiliated to Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (A Central University). The Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (A Central University) is an “A” Grade accredited Institute by NAAC (An autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi). In Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (A Central University) for strengthening the Department of Forestry, continuous financial support is being provided by Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE), Dehradun since 1995. The importance of academic contribution of the Department of Forestry has also been recognized by DST-FIST in 2007, which has further supported and assisted in strengthening the department. More than 20 scholars from this department have been awarded Ph. D degree in Forestry by the HNB Garhwal University and Dr. Bobbymoore Konsam (Head, Department of Forestry, Himalayan College) is also one of them. Three scholars were selected as Scientist by Agriculture Research Scientist Board (ICAR) and more than 08 scholars have qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi. SCOPE OF B.Sc. FORESTRY Agriculture has a wide scope but Forestry – It is also a branch of agriculture. If you are into adventure then this course is for you. Coming to the main point, if someone’s instinct suggest for Forestry and wild life then after graduation in forestry one can go on joining PG course in premier institutes like Forest Research Institute, Wildlife Institute of India, Indian Institute of Forest Management. Post graduation in this course would add star in your forestry degree. Forestry graduates in the Forest Department of Indian Government. You can attend many of the Central and State government exams which are being conducted. They can be part of the recruitment procedures in various central government departments. The forestry graduates can attend in the UPSC exams for going in to services such as IFS, IAS, IPS, etc. as well as the State Public Service Commission Examinations. For students jobs are available in forest industries, such as Pulp and Paper mills, Plywood and Timber industries, where they can achieve the post of Manager after one or two years on their hard work and can earn the salary of 50000/month. In case of private sector jobs, some job posts available such as plantation and resort manager, forest product marketing, forest products purchasing manager, Research and Development sector etc. There are jobs for forestry graduates like in Paper companies (Plantation and Raw Material)- preferred IIFM grads, Agri & Plantation related companies like DS Group (Rajnigandha fame), reputed NGOs like FES, JBF, WOTR, AKRSP, GIZ, etc. The candidates who have done their graduation in forestry can opt for specialization in Agro forestry, Silviculture, Forest products, Tree improvements, wood science & technology, etc. The number of seats in any Agricultural University or College is far more than the number of B.Sc. Forestry seats and the number of Agriculture graduates is more than the Forestry graduates. So there is more competition in case of agriculture as compared to forestry. Also in case of State or Central Government posts, if there is vacancy, the eligibility criteria is B.Sc. Agriculture and Allied Sciences that means Forestry students are also eligible for those posts. But for Forestry jobs, only B.Sc. Forestry students are eligible. So there is a greater scope of B.Sc. Forestry.
